Marjorie Michel

Born in Haiti, Marjorie Michel settled in Quebec before building a career marked by public service. She holds a master's degree in social, work and organizational psychology from the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium). She began her federal political career in 2016 as a policy advisor to then–Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos. In 2019, she became the first Black woman named chief of staff within the federal government, and in 2021, deputy chief of staff to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Elected Member of Parliament for Papineau in 2025, she was appointed Canada's Minister of Health that same year, championing a vision of health care attentive to social inequalities, mental health and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
