Description

After completing her studies, which took her to India, Canada, and Kenya, Marie Lapierre began her professional career in Tanzania. She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2010, where she worked in the Africa and Indian Ocean Department. In 2013, she was appointed First Secretary of the French Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In 2015, Marie Lapierre joined the team at the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union in Brussels as Advisor for Africa. In 2017, she was appointed Chair of COAFR, the European Union Council working group dedicated to relations between Africa and the EU.

Marie Lapierre returned to Paris in September 2021 as Head of Mission for East Africa at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. In June 2022, she was appointed to the cabinet of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne as Foreign Affairs Advisor and Deputy Diplomatic Advisor.

A graduate in public international law from the Institut d'études politiques de Lille and in comparative politics from the University of Montreal, Marie Lapierre speaks French, English, Swahili and, to a lesser extent, Spanish.
