Recognized by her peers for her leadership and performance-oriented approach, Geneviève Fortier is committed to the success of her organization and her teams, bringing out the potential in each individual. As CEO of Promutuel Insurance, she contributes to the growth of the Group and its network of mutual companies. Her goal is to create an environment conducive to profitable growth without ever losing sight of the close relationship and trust that binds the organization to each of its member-insurers.
She entered the insurance world in 2018 after a long and successful career in the pharmaceutical industry and is the first woman to hold the highest executive position in the company since its creation 170 years ago. She is firmly committed to promoting gender parity and equal opportunity, as well as diversity and ambition.
Passionate about governance, Geneviève is Chair of the Board of Directors of Investissement Québec (IQ) and has served on numerous boards of directors prior to joining IQ. Active in the insurance industry, she is vice-chair of the board of directors of the Canadian Mutual Insurance Association and the Insurance Bureau of Canada – Quebec Chapter.
A philanthropist in heart and soul, she is deeply involved in her community, embracing causes related to youth, hope, and leadership. She has chaired the board of directors of Forces Avenir, co-chaired the 2021 campaign for Centraide Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches, and continues to promote women's ambition, notably through L'effet A and Fillactive.
The recipient of numerous awards throughout her career, Geneviève was recently named one of Canada's Top 20 Most Dynamic CEOs (2021). She was previously named one of Canada's Top 5 Most Influential Women in Human Resources and Diversity and was the winner of the Prix Femmes d'affaires du Québec in the Large Enterprise category.
She recently received the highest distinction awarded by the Quebec government when she became a Knight of the National Order of Quebec. This recognition highlighted her exceptional career and achievements, as well as her significant contribution to the advancement of Quebec society.
A Fellow of the CHRA, she holds a bachelor's and master's degree in industrial relations from Laval University.
